Meet the Band
Joel Lopez- Bass Guitar & Vocals
Joel was born and raised in Groves, Texas and graduated from Lamar University in 1979 with a BBA in Accounting. He is currently a Director of Ad Valorem Tax for a national energy firm. Joel began playing bass guitar during his college years and performed in an acoustic guitar trio for various national chains such as Steak -n- Ale, Bennigan's, and Chelsea Street Pubs. He also played with a contemporary Christian group in the early 80's. After a long hiatus from playing, he is back with Crossroads enjoying the good music and good times with his brother, Jeff Lopez, and his nephew Caleb.
Jeff Lopez - Rhythm/acoustic guitar, vocals
An accomplished singer /songwriter /guitarist, Jeff has been performing for over four decades. He began singing and playing at the age of six on his father's Harmony guitar and his first public performance was for a grade school music class. His songwritng began during his high school years when James Taylor's music began to influence his musical tastes. Jeff recorded several original songs which received local airplay and through that experience was invited to join the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). He was affiliated with Mel Tillis Enterprises in Nashville for a time and Tillis recorded two of his songs on the MGM label, one of which Mel performed on the Dinah Shore television show. CROSSROADS will eventually do some of Jeff's original music but presently the band has concentrated on material their audience will recognize.
"The most rewarding thing for me the last few years has been the opportunity to play with my sons Caleb (guitar) and Adam (drums). We began a trio in the Beaumont area that has evolved into the present CROSSROADS lineup. Adam no longer plays with us because of his job but my brother Joel picked up his bass again and has joined the band. Brian and Dan are super guys. It's been a lot of fun. To play well is important, but in the end, if the people you work with don't measure up as individuals it's not worth the effort. I plan to play until I can't hit a note any longer.
Caleb Lopez - Lead/acoustic guitar, keyboards, vocals
Raised on good music from birth, Caleb Lopez was taught by his father to play guitar at a very early age. He quickly fell under the influence of artists such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Van Halen, and ZZ Top. He began performing professionally in high school and has never looked back.
Caleb attended Lamar University as a music major and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Music with Teacher Certification in December or 2005. While at Lamar Caleb sharpened his musical skills and picked up keyboards and bass. He also began doing horn arrangements for the Lamar 'A' Jazz Band and various other groups. While at Lamar he backed such jazz artists as trumpeter Bobby Shew, Rolling Stone's trombonist Michael Davis, and nationally acclaimed jazz composer Jeff Jarvis. His experiences at Lamar also brought rhythms of Funk music and harmony of Jazz into his playing style. Groups he has played with have performed all over Texas and the United States from Orlando to San Antonio to Seattle.
Caleb lives in Deer Park, TX with his wife Natalie and teaches jr. high band in neighboring Baytown along with jazz at the high school level.
Dan Schreiber - Piano/Keyboards/Vocals
Dan Schreiber has been a professional musician for over 30 years. Raised in Detroit, he taught himself to play the piano and played in several local bands after completing his studies at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. While living in California, he continued working in various groups, but also began finding many rewarding opportunities to play solo piano.
After relocating to south Florida, Dan continued his solo career and began performing on cruise ships, working 6 nights per week while traveling the world with Carnival Cruise Lines and Royal Caribbean International and compiling a 700+ song repertoire. At the same time, he continued playing in bands, working the disco scene in the late '70's, the hard rock and metal crazes of the '80s, and country/western in the '90s.
Over the years, Dan has had the opportunity to perform with The Drifters, Tammy Wynette, and The Classics IV.
Brian Ekeberg - Drums, vocals
Born and raised in Minnesota, Brian Ekeberg became interested in the drums at an early age: My earliest recollection of my interest in music and the drums is when I was about 5 or 6. I would pull the vacuum cleaner hose apart and pretend they were drumsticks. I guess I had a pretty good imagination. Although I'm not sure what the original spark was that got me interested in drumming, the never-ending challenges in learning to play the drums and enjoying the learning process keeps me coming back for more. And the performance aspect, which is my favorite part, brings life to all of that experience.
Brian started his formal education in music at the age of 9 in grade school concert band, and continued that education through college, graduating from Moorhead State University with a degree in percussion. In addition to regular gigging in college, both as a drummer and a lead singer (drumming is not his only musical passion), Brian co-founded and performed with the eclectic world music band Kilimanjaro, performing gigs in the Minneapolis area and around Minnesota and earning a reputation for very energetic and creative live performances. After college, Brian moved to Los Angeles and took over the drumming chair for the L.A.-based band, The Providers, playing with artists such as Grammy-nominated saxophonist Rick Rossi (Brian Setzer Orchestra), and heavy-metal producer Joey Vera (Metal Blade Records, Armored Saint). In addition to his gigging duties with The Providers, Brian also did theater work, drumming in the pit orchestra for such musicals as Annie and West Side Story.
Since moving to Houston in 1998 and performing with several Houston-area bands since then, Brian's passion for music and drumming hasn't let up. Over the years I think that my drumming has gotten better, but what I'm realizing is that it's not just the technical skills you bring to the instrument that makes you a better player, it's all of those life experiences that gives your playing a depth that you just can't get otherwise.
